In the current environment, Managed IT Service Providers (MSPs) have a bigger target painted on their backs than most small businesses do.
Why is this? Cyber criminals have realized that the MSP’s connection into client’s networks (the very tool your MSP uses to provide you with support) can be breached which gains the criminals entry into multiple businesses. Targeting an MSP means that with the work of a single breach, attackers can get access to hundreds of networks in one swoop!
Think about the nearly unlimited access your IT partner has to your network. How certain are you that they have adequate protections in place? Is your company’s security something you’re willing to gamble on?
Many businesses mistakenly think that because an MSP is in the business, they must have the absolute best security in place, but this is a dangerous assumption to make.
One way to determine whether or not your MSP is putting you at risk is via their Microsoft Secure Score which is a numerical ranking based on the MSP’s system configurations, user behavior and other security related measurements. Most MSP’s do not volunteer their scores, but you have a right to know if your network is safe in their hands, so we encourage you to ask for that information.
Along with asking for their Microsoft Secure Score, there are a few more questions which you can ask your MSP to determine their security level. For your convenience, these are laid out in the graphic posted below.
